Preparing for the European Unified Patent Court (UPC) (Live MBHB Webinar)

Preparing for the European Unified Patent Court (UPC) (Live MBHB Webinar)

16 March 2016

Major European countries will soon begin what are, perhaps, the most radical changes in the European patent system since at least the EPC. That is, the current system of national EP patents enforced in national courts will be replaced by a Unified Patent covering all participating countries and enforced in a Unified Patent Court system, whose decisions will be binding in all participating countries. The change will take place during a 7-year transition, during which time patent owners have an option to elect which system will apply to their patent rights. Choosing the optimal system is neither simple nor straightforward, but attending this webinar will make you better prepared for what lies ahead.

Detailed points of discussion will include:

The present system in Europe
- Patenting
- Litigation
The new system
- Introduction and terminology
- Unitary patents
- Unified patent court
- Opting out?
- Understanding the transitional provisions
- Practicalities: cost -proprietorship and licence issues
