The EPO’s Select Committee for the unitary patent held its seventh meeting on 26 March 2014 in Munich. Progress was made on the draft Rules relating to Unitary Patent Protection (the administrative rules), this being their second reading. The structure for a compensation scheme for certain applicants filing in a non EPO language was agreed, and that decision will affect not the EPO’s development of its IT but, importantly, discussions on the level of renewal fees. The Select Committee will discuss renewal fees and other financial aspects in its next meeting on 26 and 27 May 2014.
