UK completes another step towards ratification of the UPC Agreement

15.01.2016

The UK government has announced (here) that it has concluded its consultation on legislation to give effect to the UPC Agreement and EU legislation on the Unitary patent, publishing its response to its consultation on the proposed draft secondary legislation.  The draft legislation is in the form of a Statutory Instrument (SI) which will make certain changes to the Patents Act 1977, and will come into force when the UPC Agreement comes into force.  The government will be amending the draft to take account of the responses to the consultation.  It is expected that the legislation will be completed this spring. Hence, the UK remains on track for ratification later in 2016.
