Location of UPC’s central division seat in Paris revealed

23.05.2019

As the Agreement on a Unified Patent Court (UPC) provides, the Court’s central division will have its seat in Paris and sections in London and Munich.   Although the locations of the Court in London and Munich have been confirmed for some time (see here), there has been little news of the Paris venue.  However, there have now been reports of recent visits to the venue, by members of the CNCPI (Compagnie Nationale des Conseils en Propriété Intellectuelle, which represents French patent and trade mark attorneys) (see here) and by a delegation of judges of the Chinese Supreme People’s Court during the recent France-China conference on law and justice (see here).  The building that will, at least initially, host the UPC is located on the Quai de la Mégisserie, overlooking the Ile de la Cité, and it is reported that a few years after the Court opens (and there are more cases) the Court may move to the Palais de Justice on the Ile de la Cité.
