At the request of the President of the Austrian Patent Office, the establishment of a local division of the UPC in Austria was discussed by a working group of IP experts and ministers at the Alpbach Technology Symposium on 22 August 2014.  The working group’s report stated that, in order to improve IP management in Austria, it was important to establish the Austrian Patent Office as a local chamber within the EU IP court system.  The Austrian Patent Office has since reported that the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology has announced that it intends to establish such a local chamber.  It therefore appears that an Austrian local division of the UPC is likely be set up in Vienna, where the Austrian Patent Office is located.
