Jo Johnson, IP Minister, resigns as Minister and MP
05 September 2019
As reported here, Jo Johnson (brother of Prime Minister Boris Johnson) was recently re-appointed Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation, with responsibility for IP. However, Jo Johnson has today resigned his roles both as Minister and MP, tweeting “It’s been an honour to represent Orpington for 9 years & to serve as a minister under three PMs. In recent weeks I’ve been torn between family loyalty and the national interest - it’s an unresolvable tension & time for others to take on my roles as MP & Minister.” As, following yesterday’s events in Parliament, a general election in the near future is likely, any new IP Minister may have an equally short tenure.
