Sweden ratifies UPC Agreement

09 June 2014

Following the Swedish Parliament’s approval of the legislation authorising ratification of the UPC Agreement, Sweden’s instrument of ratification was deposited on 5 June 2014 in Brussels with the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union.  In depositing its instrument of ratification, Sweden became the third member state to take the final step required for ratification to have effect under Article 89(1) UPC Agreement, the other two member states having done so being Austria and France.  The Swedish legislation also provides for the establishment of the Nordic-Baltic regional division of the UPC (agreed in March between Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and to be based in Stockholm and operate in English).
