Robert specialises in intellectual property law.
He is very experienced in patent litigation matters, particularly for clients within the life sciences sector. Given the nature of such disputes, many of the cases he has managed in recent years have required the coordination of parallel proceedings in the UK, EPO and other jurisdictions within Europe and elsewhere in the world. He therefore has in-depth knowledge of European litigation and, alongside appearing for clients in the High Court and Court of Appeal, has attended preliminary injunction and main action proceedings in multiple countries within Europe and also overseen inspections of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes in India and Japan. One of his more recent cases also involved an enquiry into the damages payable under a cross-undertaking provided in respect of a preliminary injunction and was only the second case of its kind in the UK.
Robert regularly advises clients on the potential impact of the Unitary Patent and the Unified Patent Court and the strategies they should adopt. He acted for the claimants in a UPC real-time moot action that was conducted within Bristows. Robert has a background in molecular biology and has worked in academic and commercial scientific environments.
