Liz specialises in intellectual property matters with a particular focus on patent litigation. Liz has over 12 years experience of representing clients such as Syngenta, Les Laboratoires Servier and Smith & Nephew Plc in revocation and infringement proceedings in courts ranging from the Patents County Court right through to the new Supreme Court. Liz has also represented clients in the UKIPO and EPO.
Most recently, she has been asked to jointly lead a team which has successfully obtained preliminary injunctions and other relief for Novartis against generic supplies in many countries around the world. She is often asked to co-ordinate cross border litigation and to advise within Europe and beyond for clients situated outside the UK.
As a qualified solicitor advocate, Liz has appeared before the High Court and in her first appearance successfully secured an interim injunction on behalf of Servier pending trial for its ACE inhibitor product, perindopril.
Subsequently, Liz conducted the UK's first damages enquiry following a cross-undertaking given on an interim injunction. More recently, Liz has represented medical devices manufacturer, Smith & Nephew Plc, before the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court in injunction, infringement and revocation proceedings relating to its Negative Pressure Wound Therapy products. This litigation has been much commented on for the speed in which the case was brought to first instance trial and appeal (less than 7 months in total) and notably won Liz and her team TMT Team of the Year at the Lawyer Awards.
Liz's background in Natural Sciences (Neuroscience) provides her with an excellent understanding of the technical and commercial issues facing the life sciences sector in particular. Her experience in both intellectual property and healthcare regulatory matters provides her with a perfect platform from which to advise clients operating in this sector.
Liz has been published in the Journal of the British Institute of Regulatory Affairs, European Regulatory Affairs Journal, Pharmaceutical Law Insight, European Intellectual Property Review, Patent World, Managing IP, Journal of Intellectual Property and Practice and Pharmaceutical Patent Analyst.
